The Maldives is a sun-kissed beach destination with year-round weather that is ideal for a vacation. The best time to visit the Maldives, however, is between November and April, i.e. during the dry season. December to March is the peak tourist season or the best time to visit the Maldives because rainfall is almost non-existent and the weather is extremely pleasant.
Because of the ideal weather conditions, this is also considered the best season to visit the Maldives for a honeymoon, as couples can enjoy a variety of activities. Despite being the busiest season in the Maldives, it is also the time when beach resorts in the Maldives are most expensive.
Summer season (May – September)
Despite winter only starting in November, summer is arguably one of The Maldives’ busiest times of the year. The weather is usually at its best, with an average temperature range of around 26°C – 29°C. The hottest month is July with temperatures on average hovering around 30°C. In the summer season you’ll get some rain from mid-May to mid-August, so be prepared for that if you’re going during these months.
Winter season (October – April)
There are many reasons why the Maldives is a year-round destination, but it’s worth mentioning that although Winter is considered to be between October and April, in reality, it only lasts for a few weeks.
The weather during these months is dry with mild temperatures ranging from 26-32 degrees Celsius. With its many beaches, resorts, islands to explore, diving spots, and other activities – there’s no better time than winter to visit!
The amount of rainfall in the Maldives ranges from 12.8 inches to over 64 inches. On average, rainfall in November is 0.2 inches, which means it’s a good time to visit if you like warm weather but don’t want to be caught in a downpour. If you prefer sunnier days, consider visiting between April and June when rainfall averages only 2.5 inches per month.
If you really can’t stand rain or humidity at all, consider visiting during September through December when monthly rainfall averages just 3.3 inches per month.
The water temperature in the Maldives is generally comfortable throughout all seasons. In some regions, however, there are slight differences in water temperature during different times of the year. During the summer months (May to September), for example, water temperatures can rise up to 28°C (82°F). If you’re planning a trip between November and April, be prepared for slightly cooler waters at around 25°C (77°F).
When planning a vacation, many people overlook how much of an impact water temperature can have on a trip. Whether it’s snorkeling or scuba diving, shallow or deep-water swimming, the climate has everything to do with your experience.
The Indian Ocean is home to some of Asia’s warmest waters—particularly in spots like Maldives—which means that tourists don’t need to worry about wearing several layers when bathing.
